Soomi Park

Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Soomi Park is a third-year Violin Fellow at the New World Symphony. She is a vibrant musician with a flourishing career as both a soloist and chamber artist. Her musical journey began at the age of four with early studies at the NEC Precollege. A distinguished graduate of the Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and Yonsei University in South Korea, she furthered her education by earning a Master’s degree in 2023 from Indiana University under the mentorship of Simin Ganatra, and pursued a performance diploma at the University of Southern California on a full scholarship with Lina Bahn. 

As a chamber musician, Soomi has achieved notable success. Her string quartet Tempus won 1st place in the Yonsei Chamber Music Competition in 2018. She is also a member of Quartet Atmung at USC, which earned 2nd place in the Christine Marie Ofiesh Honors Chamber Competition in 2023 and debuted at the Montreal Musical Chairs Festival 2024 at McGill University. 

Soomi’s solo career features collaborations with prestigious orchestras such as the Seoul Academy Orchestra, Ansan Philharmonic Orchestra, Yonsei Symphony Orchestra, and Prime Philharmonic Orchestra. She has held prominent leadership roles, including concertmaster of the Indiana University Orchestra, Thornton Symphony, associate concertmaster of the Tanglewood Orchestra in 2024, and performances with the Boston Symphony. Beyond the stage, her artistic contributions include recording the violin soundtrack for the 2020 Korean drama Do You Like Brahms? and releasing a live recording album featuring Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 8.
